The Activities Office manages all of the sports, fine arts, and extra-curricular activities for Tartan High School. The Activities Office is located on the lowest floor below the 11th & 12th-grade offices. We invite you to register for athletics/activities using our online portal.

Schedules

Access schedules at http://www.metroeastconference.org. Click on Tartan of any conference school to view a sport or activity. Also, you can be notified of changes as they occur by clicking on Tartan High School, Notify me and follow the prompts. You will automatically receive an email when changes are made to the schedule.

Application for Educational Benefits

By completing the Application for Educational Benefits, your child and family may qualify for benefits which include reduced activities and athletics fees.

Registration for 2025-2026 Fall Activities.

Make sure you have a current MSHSL SPORTS QUALIFYING PHYSICAL EXAMINATION MEDICAL ELIGIBILITY FORM on file in the Tartan Athletic Office. Physicals are good for three calendar years.
Students are not allowed to register until we have the physical form in hand in our office and have processed it. Please do not turn it into the Nurses Office at Tartan or Skyview as this does not work for Athletics/Activities.
Students must register which includes paying the sports fee before they are allowed on the field for practice and try-outs on August 12th.

Do you need to submit a physical?

Below are different ways to do that.

Drop it off in the Activities/Athletic Office.
Email it to Ms. Miller and she will confirm that it was received.

If you do not have a way to scan the physical, you can take a picture of it
and email it that way. If you do this option, we only need the front page to get it processed. Then the original physical will need to be dropped in the Athletic Office.

Students are not allowed to participate without a current physical and
their parents registering them and paying their fee.

Activities

Asian Student Alliance

Advisor:

Asian Student Alliance is a student-led group with members from grades 9-12. We have weekly meetings to get to know other ASA students, socialize, plan events and activities, fundraise, and learn about opportunities within our communities, how to be successful academically, and prepare for post-secondary options. Our yearly events include an annual picnic, leaders' retreat, New Year Celebration, and end of the year celebration/recognition of graduating A.S.A. seniors.

Business Professional of America (BPA)

Business Professionals of America is a national organization with local and state chapters that provide leadership opportunities for high school students. The organization’s activities provide for leadership, social, professional, and citizenship development as well as increased knowledge of business and its future. Community service is a big part of Tartan's award-winning BPA program.

Tartan's BPA chapter was selected as the State Chapter of the Year in March 2017!

Students compete at the Regional level and depending on how they rank, can also compete at the State and National level.

Debate

Date: September through December (January for Varsity)

The debate team at Tartan is a Minnesota State High School League and MN Urban Debate League activity that runs from September through December (with more competitive opportunities for Varsity debaters continuing into the later Winter/Spring months). We participate in “Policy Debate” which has a national topic for the year and requires debaters to compete in pairs against students from other schools around the Twin Cities metro-area.

The Tartan Debate Team is a relatively new program established in the Fall of 2021. We have qualified to the MSHSL State tournament in 2023-24 and 2024-25, where only the top 24 teams in Minnesota advance. During the 2024-25 season, one of our varsity teams (seniors Inah James & Hannah Howes) was recognized 10th overall in the state! We have also qualified to the Urban Debate National Championships, where the top 40 teams from UDLs across the nation compete. In the 2024-25 season, one of our varsity teams (seniors Inah James & Lillie Perez) advanced into Octafinals as the 11th seed overall and placed 13th! Inah was also recognized as 20th overall speaker out of ~80 debaters!

Why debate?

Debate can improve overall academic performance via ACT scores, engagement in class, & MCA testing
Debate helps foster critical thinking & research skills
Debate teaches students how to advocate for what they believe in to make change!
Students that participate in MNUDL High School debate for at least two years may become eligible for the Augsburg Promise Scholarship (which covers the cost of tuition at Augsburg University)

DECA

DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality, and management.
Tartan DECA is proud to offer students the opportunity to join one of the best chapters in Minnesota. As a member of DECA you will manage and operate the school store, earn credits while you earn a paycheck, score articulated credits with Century College, and compete at the district, state, and International level with students from across the world.

Join
To join DECA you need to complete one of the prerequisite classes and get permission from Mr. Spreiter. Prerequisite courses may include: Sales & Marketing, Sports and Entertainment Marketing, Introduction to Marketing, Advertising and Promotions, Entrepreneurship/Owning a Business, or Introduction to Business. DECA is open to juniors and seniors with applications being accepted between January and May...space is limited so apply early for the upcoming school year.

Fusion Calendar

The Fusion Drumline is an enjoyable extra-curricular activity for students in grades 7-12 throughout all of ISD 622. We are a percussion group that performs inside during the winter months. Our show is a combination of marching, acting and musical performances. Instruments played include snare, tenor, and bass drums; mallet instruments such as marimbas, xylophones, and vibraphones; electric and bass guitar, cymbals, piano and other percussion instruments. We compete in the MPA (Minnesota Percussion Association) sanctioned events, as well as playing at some school events.

WHAT IS LINK CREW?

Link Crew is a student organization led by junior and senior leaders who welcome 9th graders and help them transition to life in high school. As positive role models, Link Leaders guide 9th graders to discover what it takes to be successful in high school and help support their success. They use their unique experience as students to help teach 9th graders about our school and how to deal with the challenges and responsibilities of being a high school student.

By applying to be a Link Leader, you are applying to be part of something powerful - part of a group that makes real and positive change at Tartan High School. We are looking for enthusiastic and engaged students who want to work together to do great things for our school. We also like to have a lot of fun along the way. As a Link Leader, you will learn and use a bunch of new skills: leadership, effective group work, how to make teams work, public speaking, and interpersonal interaction skills.

National Honor Society

NHS

About

Tartan’s National Honor Society began when Tartan first opened its doors in February of 1971. This organization is still a strong chapter at Tartan and within our communities. NHS is dedicated to promoting the qualities of leadership, scholarship, service, and character.

NHS members performed services in many areas: mentored small youth groups at the Kindness and Courage Retreat, assisted with parent/teacher conferences, played BINGO with senior citizens at Oak Meadows, tutored elementary students at local elementary schools, helped at local carnivals, supported youth groups in faith and athletic organizations, assisted Twin Cities in Motion at the Hot Dash run in March, and spent many hours at Feed My Starving Children. Additionally, this ceremony and reception tonight is organized and put on by the NHS members.

Two activities that our chapter is most proud of are the Twin Cities Marathon and Sweetheart Dance. NHS helps set-up and carry out the needed responsibilities to assist the 100’s of marathon runners at Mile 13 for the Twin Cities Marathon every October. Tartan NHS has been the sole group to run this water stop for TCM for the past eight years. Secondly, we excitedly planned and prepared for the annual Sweetheart Dance for 200 senior citizens at Gladstone Community Center. The students' prepared gift bags, food, and decorations for this event.

This was a busy and amazing group of young men and women! In addition to their volunteer service hours, these students maintain commendable grades and a GPA at or above 3.6, hold jobs, and participate in countless extra-curricular activities. These students lead by example and show their peers how to be self-motivated, giving, and proud of their school and community. Tartan and our community have benefited from this group of future global leaders!

Students who have a 3.6 cumulative GPA at the end of the 1st trimester and are interested in applying to Tartan's National Honor Society will need to complete 12 service hours from December 2023 - March 2024. Students who are eligible will be invited to a meeting in December. While documenting volunteering hours, use the following form to record important information and signatures:

It is the mission of Tartan High School and the FIRST Robotics Program to focus on the development of crucial STEM academics to help foster students’ growth in these areas for an ever-advancing and changing world centered around these scientific skills.

Slack is an app that you can (and should) download on your phone to get Tartan Robotics updates. Important updates are posted on here as well as competition live streaming links. Essentially, Slack is a professional chatroom, so this allows you to submit questions as well.

STAND

STAND is an extracurricular service group of Tartan High School students dedicated to helping others. We include freshmen, sophomore, junior, and seniors who are interested in volunteering in our community. We have volunteered with groups like Feed My Starving Children & the Ronald McDonald House, served holiday meals at our local women’s shelters, and have even raked leaves for neighborhood families in the Fall.

Some of us commit to only two or three projects per year.

Tartan students in Uprising say it is a great way to make new friends and meet other students.

We have read books with elementary students, rang bells at local malls and helped with Second Harvest Heartland.

Please consider joining our group. We will be happy to welcome you. You’ll be glad you join us in helping others in our community.

Tartan Torch is a student-run publication. Students (yearbook staffers!) work hard all year to create, design, photograph, write and promote the yearbook. Each student is held to a high level of accountability, and devote many hours outside the classroom to complete assignments for this amazing publication.
